I visited our rehearsal space in Mile End a few days ago. It was the middle of the Montreal heatwave (I’m sure I don’t need to remind anyone how hot it was!) and working without air-conditioning was uncomfortable – to say the least. Because of the noise of construction outside, director André Perrier had to close the windows. A solitary fan provided the only moving air.
Au cas où quelqu’un aurait besoin d’un rappel à propos de l’urgence du problème des infrastructures à Montréal, en juillet dernier, un morceau de béton est tombé d’une corniche l’Hôtel Marriot et est venu s’écraser sur la terrasse d’un restaurant de sushi, tuant une femme de 33 ans et blessant son conjoint. Selon un article de La Gazette de Montréal du 21 août dernier, le propriétaire de l’hôtel n’a pas produit de rapport de sécurité. Ensuite, durant l’été, un bloc de béton s’est détaché de l’Échangeur Turcot et a blessé, dans sa chute, un travailleur de la construction qui travaillais dessous.
In case anyone needed a reminder about the urgency of Montréal’s infrastructure problems, this July, a concrete slab fell from the Marriot Residence Hotel and smashed through to the sushi restaurant below, killing a 33-year old woman and injuring her husband. According to a Montreal Gazette article, published August 21, the owner of the hotel had still not produced a safety report. Also over the summer, a block of concrete from the Turcot Exchange fell onto a construction worker below, injuring him.
