I wanted to share today one of my favourite parts of Sexy béton II : Justice (currently playing at the Segal Centre). It takes place in the play’s second half, when lawyer, Julius Grey, meets the families bereaved and injured by the tragic collapse of the Concorde overpass. He is providing legal counsel, pro bono, and in the following extract, talks to Claude Goyette, whose son was killed that day.

This evening, we will be presenting Porte Parole at Pecha Kucha; doors are at 7:30pm, presentations start at 8:20pm. What is Pecha Kucha? As you can read here “PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide.”

This short animated film from the National Film Board of Canada captures neatly the spirit of what Porte Parole as a theatre company is all about. What can individuals do when confronted with problems in their community? Do something, that’s what. Even though it can be frustrating, complicated, and a bureaucratic nightmare. Poor Harold.
