Check out Porte Parole’s most recent video production where we explore the topic of documentary theatre using the Sexy béton show as our prime example. Featuring interviews with Carole Fréchette, dramaturgical consultant for Sexy béton I, Annabel Soutar, playwright, and Maria Mercadante, who, of course, is a principle character in the trilogy, this video shows scenes from both Sexy béton I – II and how the issue at hand fits into the Montreal context.

What a wonderful idea! In its realization this wonderful dramatic work of memory enables us to remain aware of the most painful moments for individuals, for a society, and to reflect on all of our individual and collective ethical responsibilities in life!
Not only might I have been one of the people killed or injured in that accident but I might have been an architect, an engineer, a construction worker, maintenance worker… we all have to depend so heavily on our fellow human beings to do the right thing, their right thing, day in and day out…
Thank you for your comment Sylvia.
Indeed, the play attempts to bring the audience as close as possible to the experience of the victims and anyone involved in the construction of the overpass so we can view the incident through their eyes and become capable of imaging what it would be like to be in their shoes. I sincerely believe that as long as we are incapable of compassion, we will be incapable of ACTING to correct the injustices around us. Just because something didn’t happen to me does not mean I shouldn’t take responsibility for it.
